ELABO workbench systems: Industry 4.0 for SMEs

euromicron subsidiary enables networked small-series production

euromicron’s subsidiary ELABO has applied Industry 4.0 to small-series production in the small and medium-sized sector. With the aid of the new Primus 4.0 networked workbench system, ideal coordination between development, production, service and quality management can be achieved, even across distributed locations.

Crailsheim, December 9, 2014 – Industry 4.0, the merging of information and production technology, has mainly been an issue for large companies up to now. euromicron’s subsidiary ELABO, a leading manufacturer of networked workbench systems, has now also applied Industry 4.0 to production in the SME sector and has developed the Primus 4.0 especially for small-series production. The new system is based on the ergonomically balanced and particularly user-friendly Primus One, the first workbench system to be certified for use in electrostatic protected areas (EPAs). It is suitable for all areas of electro-technical production – from PCs, medical equipment, and device technology to the automotive supply industry.

Primus 4.0 consists of a total of three subsystems for (a) research and development, (b) small-lot production and (c) repair and maintenance. All the subsystems are monitored from a common control center that pools, processes and passes on all the data and documents the quality of the work processes. The particular advantage of Primus 4.0 is the option of networking across locations: The subsystems and control center do not have to be situated on the same company campus, as they can communicate via the Internet over any distance. Development, production, service and quality management can thus be coordinated optimally, even across distributed production sites – a key aid in securing the global competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.

With its Primus 4.0, ELABO is addressing the leading-edge idea of interpreting Industry 4.0 as a means of assisting the human workforce. “We regard the development of intelligent production systems and networked production sites as an opportunity to improve people’s working situation and enable to them to work more healthily, safely and efficiently. We believe the Primus 4.0, with its networking options, ergonomic design and suitability for EPAs, represents a seamless embodiment of this concept,” says Thomas Hösle, Managing Director of ELABO GmbH.

Anyone who is interested in the Primus 4.0 workbench system can view it at the ELABO Smart Factory in Crailsheim/Northern Württemberg. More details can also be found at www.elabo.de/smartfactory.
